Purpose of the Work: As an artist who never achieved recognition in America, we wanted to share Kudo’s work with a new audience and detail his success in Japan and Europe. The depth of his career is illustrated through the timeline of his life, featuring archival photography of performances and exhibitions. The book opens with a typographic timeline a modified collection of exhibition announcements in chronological order. The artist’s most significant motifs are evoked throughout the design (i.e. radiation is suggested by the fluorescent orange paper). The transparent jacket allows the cover to radiate or glow; over time, the jacket’s die cut pips will fade onto the cover below, creating a ghost image.
