Josh Simpson: The new "big idea"

The "big idea" has long been a promise of the advertising world. In today's media-saturated environment, the demands of a "big idea" have been amplified and agencies are pushing the definition of advertising in exciting ways.

But how are big ideas born in this era? Where do genuine insights come from and how do you know you have one that will really change behavior?

Josh Simpson will showcase a groundbreaking BBDO global "Rituals" study which examined people's daily behavior from across 21 different countries. He'll also share some of the work from across the BBDO network which evidence this new approach to the marketplace including the Cannes Grand Prix winning integrated campaign for HBO's "Voyeaur", Amp Energy Drink, GE, M&Ms, Gillette, Haviannas, BBC, Pepsi and Fedex.

Josh Simpson is a 15-year vet of Minneapolis advertising. For the last five years he's been the business development director and global network resource coordinator for BBDO Minneapolis whose clients include Hormel Foods, Jennie O, OPUS, Aviva, Edina Realty, RBC, Formica, CommonBond and the Como Zoo. Prior to BBDO, Josh spent ten years at Carmichael Lynch in account management, new business development and strategic planning working on Harley-Davidson, NWA, Caribou Coffee, Mack Truck and others.

BBDO Minneapolis, which has serviced national and regional marketers since 1930, is part of BBDO Worldwide. In 2007, BBDO was the most awarded agency in the world for the second year in a row according to The Gunn Report and was named the winner of The Big Won as the most awarded agency network across multiple media disciplines. In addition, BBDO was named the first-ever "Network of the Year" at the International Advertising Festival in Cannes in 2007 and won again in 2008.
